THE OLD TESTAMENT MESSIAH
OF WHOM DO THESE SCRIPTURES SPEAK?
GENESIS 49:10 NKJV
The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.
PSALM 2:1-12 NKJV
1 Why do the nations rage, And the
people plot a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take
counsel
together,
Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,
3 "Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords
from
us."
4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them
in derision.
5 Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in
His
deep
displeasure:
6 "Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion."
7 "I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, 'You are My
Son, Today
I have begotten You.
8 Ask of Me, and I will give You inheritance, And the ends of the
earth for
Your possession.
9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them in
pieces
like a potter's vessel.'"
10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of
the
earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When
His wrath
is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust
in
Him.
PSALM 22:1,6-8,14-18 NKJV
1 My God, My God, why have You
forsaken
Me?...
6 ...A reproach of men, and despised of the people.
7 All those who see Me laugh Me to scorn; They shoot out the lip,
they shake
the head, saying
8 "He trusted in the Lord, let Him rescue Him; Let Him deliver
Him,
since
He delights in Him!"
14 I am poured out like water, And all My bones are out of joint;
My
heart
is like wax; It has melted within Me.
15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And My tongue clings
to
My jaws;
You have brought Me to the dust of death.
16 For dogs have surrounded Me; The assembly of the wicked has
enclosed Me.
They pierced My hands and My feet;
17 I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me.
18 They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they
cast
lots.
PROVERBS 8:22-36 NKJV
22 "The Lord possessed me at the
beginning of His way, Before His
works of
old.
23 I have been established from everlasting, From the beginning,
before there
was ever an earth.
24 When there were no depths I was brought forth, When there were
no
fountains
abounding with water.
25 Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills, I was
brought forth;
26 While as yet He had not made the earth or the fields, Or the
primeval
dust of the world.
27 When He prepared the heavens, I was there, When He drew a
circle
on the
face of the deep,
28 When He established the clouds above, When He strengthened the
fountains
of the deep,
29 When He assigned to the sea its limit, So that the waters would
not transgress
His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth,
30 Then I was beside Him, as a master craftsman; And I was daily
His
delight,
Rejoicing always before Him,
31 Rejoicing in His inhabited world, And my delight was with the
sons of
men.
32 "Now therefore, listen to me, my children, For blessed are
those
who keep
my ways.
33 Hear instruction and be wise, and do not disdain it.
34 Blessed is the man who listens to me, Watching daily at My
gates,
Waiting
at the posts of My doors.
35 For whoever finds Me finds life, And obtains favor from the
Lord;
36 But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; All those who
hate Me
love death."
ISAIAH 7:14 NKJV
"Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
ISAIAH 9:6-7 NKJV
6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto
us a
Son is given; And the
government
will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful,
Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no
end,
Upon
the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and
establish it
with
judgement and justice From that time forward, even forever. The
zeal of
the
Lord of hosts will perform this.
ISAIAH 52:13-15; 53:1-12 NKJV
13 Behold, My Servant shall deal
prudently, He shall be exalted and
extolled
and be very high.
14 Just as many were astonished at you, So His visage was marred
more than
any man, And His form more than the sons of men;
15 So shall He sprinkle many nations. Kings shall shut their
mouths
at Him;
For what had not been told them they shall see, And what they had
not
heard
they shall consider.
1 Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord
been revealed?
2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root
out of
dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him,
There is
no
beauty that we should desire Him.
3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and
acquainted with
grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was
despised, and
we
did not esteem Him.
4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we
esteemed
Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for
our
iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we
are
healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one,
to
his own
way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His
mouth; He
was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its
shearers
is
silent, So He opened not His mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgement, And who will
declare
His
generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For
the
transgressions of My people He was stricken.
9 And they made His grave with the wicked-- But with the rich at
His
death,
Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief.
When you
make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall
prolong
His days, And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.
11 He shall see the travail of His soul, and be satisfied. By His
knowledge
My righteous servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their
iniquities.
12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He
shall divide
the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto
death,
And
He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of
many,
And
made intercession for the transgressors.
DANIEL 7:13-14 NKJV
13 "I was watching in the night
visions,
And behold, One like the
Son of
Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of
Days,
And
they brought Him near before Him.
14 Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That
all
peoples,
nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an
everlasting
dominion,
Which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the one Which shall not
be
destroyed.
DANIEL 9:25-26 NKJV
25 "Know therefore and understand,
That
from the going forth of the
command
to restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There
shall be
seven
weeks and sixty-two weeks; the street shall be built again, and
the
wall,
Even in troublesome times.
26 "And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but
not
for
Himself;....
MICAH 5:2 NKJV
"But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth have been from of old, From everlasting."
ZECHARIAH 9:9 NKJV
"Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.
ZECHARIAH 12:10 NKJV
"And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they have pierced; they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.
