Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the hearts.

PROVERBS 28:25-26 NKJV
25   He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife, But he who trusts in the Lord will be prospered.
26   He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But whoever walks wisely will be delivered.

ISAIAH 5:21 NKJV
Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

ROMANS 1:21-22 NKJV
21   because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but
became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
22   Professing to be wise, they became fools,

HOW SHOULD CHRISTIANS DEAL WITH INSTRUCTION?

PSALMS 141:5 NKJV
Let the righteous strike me; It shall be a kindness. And let him reprove me; It shall be as
excellent oil; Let my head not refuse it. For still my prayer is against the deeds of the wicked.

PROVERBS 9:8-9 NKJV
8    Do not reprove a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
9    Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will
increase in learning.

PROVERBS 10:17 NKJV
He who keeps instruction is in the way of life, But he who refuses reproof goes astray.

PROVERBS 12:15 NKJV
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But he who heeds counsel is wise.

PROVERBS 14:16 NKJV
A wise man fears and departs from evil, But a fool rages and is self-confident.

PROVERBS 17:10 NKJV
Reproof is more effective for a wise man than a hundred blows on a fool.

ECCLESIASTES 7:5 NKJV
It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise than for a man to hear the song of fools.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOU FIND YOURSELF LACKING IN WISDOM?

PROVERBS 3:5-7 NKJV
5    Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
6    In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
7    Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil.

PROVERBS 9:6-12 NKJV
6    Forsake foolishness and live, And go in the way of understanding.
7    "He who reproves a scoffer gets shame for himself, And he who rebukes a wicked man gets
himself a blemish.
8    Do not reprove a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
9    Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will
increase in learning.
10   The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is
understanding.
11   For by me your days will be multiplied, And years of life will be added to you.
12   If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, And if you scoff, you alone will bear it."

PROVERBS 23:4 KJV
Labor not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.

PROVERBS 28:25-26 NKJV
25   He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife, But he who trusts in the Lord will be prospered.
26   He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But whoever walks wisely will be delivered.

ISAIAH 55:6-9 NKJV
6    Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.
7    Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the
Lord, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.
8    "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the Lord.
9    "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My
thoughts than your thoughts.

ROMANS 12:16 NKJV
Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate
with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.

JAMES 1:2-8 NKJV
2    My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,
3    knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
4    But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
5    If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without
reproach, and it will be given to him.
6    But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven
and tossed by the wind.
7    For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
8    he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

THE FOOL'S PRAYER

LUKE 18:11 NKJV
"The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other
men--extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.

THE OVERALL PICTURE

1 CORINTHIANS 1:17-31 NKJV
17   For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words,
lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.
18   For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are
being saved it is the power of God.
19   For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and bring to nothing the
understanding of the prudent."
20   Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made
foolish the wisdom of this world?
21   For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased
God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.
22   For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;
23   but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness,
24   but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom
of God.
25   Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than
men.
26   For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many
mighty, not many noble, are called.
27   But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has
chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;
28   and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the
things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are,
29   that no flesh should glory in His presence.
30   But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God-- and
righteousness and sanctification and redemption--
31   that, as it is written, "He who glories, let him glory in the Lord."

1 CORINTHIANS 3:18-23 NKJV
18   Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him
become a fool that he may become wise.
19   For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise
in their own craftiness";
20   and again, "The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile."
21   Therefore let no one glory in men. For all things are yours:
22   wether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or things present or things to
come-- all are yours.
23   And you are Christ's, and Christ is God's.
