JUDGING: THE NECESSITY FOR WITNESSES

NUMBERS 35:30 NKJV
'Whoever kills a person, the murderer shall be put to death on the testimony of witnesses; but one witness is not sufficient testimony against a person for the death penalty.

DEUTERONOMY 17:6 NKJV
"Whoever is worthy of death shall be put to death on the testimony of two or three witnesses, but he shall not be put to death on the testimony of one witness.

DEUTERONOMY 19:15-19 NKJV
15   "One witness shall not rise against a man concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits; by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter shall be established.
16   "If a false witness rises against any man to testify against him of wrongdoing,
17   "then both men in the controversy shall stand before the Lord, before the priests and the judges who serve in those days.
18   "And the judges shall make diligent inquiry, and indeed, if the witness is a false witness, who has testified falsely against his brother,
19   "then you shall do to him as he thought to have done to his brother; so you shall put away the evil person from among you.

MATTHEW 18:15-17 NKJV
15   "Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.
16   "But if he will not hear you, take with you one or two more, that 'by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.'
17   "And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.

JOHN 7:51 NKJV
"Does our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?"

JOHN 8:13-18 NKJV
13   The Pharisees therefore said to Him, "You bear witness of Yourself; Your witness is not true."
14   Jesus answered and said to them, "Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going.
15   "You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.
16   "And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me.
17   "It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true.
18   "I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me."

1 TIMOTHY 5:19 NKJV
Do not receive an accusation against an elder except from two or three witnesses.

HEBREWS 10:28-31 NKJV
28   Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
29   Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?
30   For we know Him who said, "Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord." And again, "The Lord will judge His people."
31   It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

JUDGING: THE NECESSITY OF HAVING YOUR OWN SLATE CLEAN

MATTHEW 7:1-5 NKJV
1    "Judge not, that you be not judged.
2    "For with what judgement you judge, you will be judged; and with the same measure you use, it will be measured back to you.
3    "And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?
4    "Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck out of your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye?
5    "Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother's eye.

LUKE 6:37-42 NKJV
37   "Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
38   "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you."
39   And He spoke a parable to them: "Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch?
40   "a disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.
41   "And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye?
42   "Or how can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother's eye.

ROMANS 2:1-3 NKJV
1    Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.
2    But we know that the judgement of God is according to truth against those who practice such things.
3    And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgement of God?

JUDGING OVER DISPUTABLE THINGS SUCH AS FOOD, MODES OF WORSHIP ETC.

ROMANS 14:1-13 NKJV
1    Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things.
2    For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables.
3    Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him.
4    Who are you to judge another's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.
5    One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind.
6    He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks.
7    For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself.
8    For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's.
9    For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.
10   But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgement seat of Christ.
11   For it is written: "As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God."
12   So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.
13   Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother's way.

2 CORINTHIANS 5:16 NKJV
Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh, Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer.

COLOSSIANS 2:16-23 NKJV
16   Therefore let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,
17   which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.
18   Let no one defraud you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19   and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase which is from God.
20   Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principals of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations--
21   "Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,"
22   which all concern things which perish with the using--according to the commandments and doctrines of men?
23   These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in selfimposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.

JAMES 4:11-12 NKJV
11   Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.
12   There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another?

JUDGING: CONCERNING FLAGRANT VIOLATIONS OF THE PRINCIPLES AND COMMANDMENTS OF GOD'S WORD

DEUTERONOMY 13:5 NKJV
"But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has spoken in order to turn you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of bondage, to entice you from the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So you shall put away the evil from your midst.

DEUTERONOMY 17:7 NKJV
"The hands of the witnesses shall be the first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So you shall put away the evil person from among you.

DEUTERONOMY 17:12 NKJV
"Now the man who acts presumptuously and will not heed the priest who stands to minister there before the Lord your God, or the judge, that man shall die. So you shall put away the evil person from Israel.

DEUTERONOMY 19:19 NKJV
"then you shall do to him as he thought to have done to his brother; so you shall put away the evil person from among you.

DEUTERONOMY 21:21 NKJV
"Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones; so you shall put away the evil person from among you, and all Israel shall hear and fear.

DEUTERONOMY 22:21 NKJV
"then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones, because she has done a disgraceful thing in Israel, to play the harlot in her father's house; so you shall put away the evil person from among you.

DEUTERONOMY 22:24 NKJV
"then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them to death with stones, the young woman because she did not cry out in the city, and the man because he humbled his brother's wife; so you shall put away the evil person from among you.

DEUTERONOMY 24:7 NKJV
"If a man is found kidnapping any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and mistreats him or sells him, then that kidnapper shall die; and you shall put away the evil person from among you.

JOHN 8:3-11 NKJV
3    Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst,
4    they said to Him, "Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act.
5    "Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?"
6    This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear.
7    So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first."
8    And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9    Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10   When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, "Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?"
11   She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said to her, "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more."

ROMANS 16:17 NKJV
Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them.

1 CORINTHIANS 5:1-13 NKJV
1    It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles--that a man has his father's wife!
2    And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you.
3    For I indeed, as absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged, as though I were present, concerning him who has so done this deed.
4    In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
5    deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
6    Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?
7    Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.
8    Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
9    I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people.
10   Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world.
11   But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner--not even to eat with such a person.
12   For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside?
13   But those who are outside God judges. Therefore "put away from yourselves that wicked person."

1 CORINTHIANS 6:5 NKJV
I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you, not even one, who will be able to judge between his brethren?

EPHESIANS 5:11 NKJV
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.

2 THESSALONIANS 3:6 NKJV
But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us.

2 THESSALONIANS 3:14-15 NKJV
14   And if anyone does not obey our word in this epistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed.
15   Yet do not count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

JUDGING: RIGHTEOUS AND UNRIGHTEOUS JUDGEMENT

1 CORINTHIANS 2:14-16 NKJV
14   But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15   But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.
16   For "Who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

1 CORINTHIANS 5:3-4 NKJV
3    For I indeed, as absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged, as though I were present, concerning him who has so done this deed.
4    In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

1 CORINTHIANS 5:9-13 NKJV

22   Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.
23   "Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants.
24   "And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.
25   "But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made.
26   "The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, 'Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.'
27   "Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.
28   "But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, 'Pay me what you owe!'
29   "So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, 'Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.'
30   "And he would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt.
31   "So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done.
32   "Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me.
33   'Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?'
34   "And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him.
35   "So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses."
